Mail Server Deployment SOP

Purpose

Deploy a secure and deliverable mail service with correct DNS, anti-abuse controls, monitoring and recovery.

Decision Summary

Mandatory CSI deployment control for applicable work; client-specific implementation requires approved scope and change authorization.

Use Cases

iRedMail/mailcow/Stalwart or supported hosted/on-prem SMTP, IMAP and webmail services.

Field Notes

Do not deploy on dynamic/residential IP, operate an open relay, promise deliverability without reputation control or run without continuous queue/abuse monitoring.

Hardware Requirements

Clean static public IP, PTR control, redundant DNS, protected mail storage, TLS, monitoring, backup and 24×7 abuse/queue ownership.

Backup Strategy

Preserve configuration, credentials references, certificates/keys, application data and deployment documentation according to the workload-specific RPO/RTO.

Recovery Strategy

Maintain a documented rollback and tested restoration path before production change; validate service, data, access and monitoring after recovery.

Secure Boot Notes

Secure Boot applies to the mail host and should remain enabled; mail deployment does not require disabling it.
